FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AMERICA'S FOLK HEROES REUNITE! The picturesque Northern California town of Ferndale is about to experience déjà vu on a dazzling scale. More than a dozen of the top singers and musicians of the 1960s-70s Folk-Rock era will gather for an unprecedented reunion concert at the pastoral College of the Redwoods on October 27th. The concert will be a 30-year flashback to the folk music cafes and coffeehouses of Chicago's bohemian Old Town section in the Early 60s, where young folk performers like Mama Cass Elliott, Spanky McFarlane, David Crosby and Roger McGuinn formed friendships and laid the musical groundwork for their superstar folk-rock groups: The Mamas & The Papas, Spanky & Our Gang, and The Byrds. Spurred by the serious illness of Curley Tait, former manager of Spanky & Our Gang (now a Ferndale restaurateur), the "Curleyfest" reunion concert was organized by the group's lead singer, Spanky McFarlane. Gathering old Chicago-era friends and well-seasoned performers now scattered from Miami to Maui, the reunion concert will revive the original sounds of the folk-rock era as a tribute to Tait -- and to recently deceased folk-rock legends Papa John Phillips, Bob Gibson and Fred Neil. The all-star group will be billed as "The Chicago VII & Friends," a reference to the infamous trial of anti-war protest leaders following the 1968 Democratic National Convention -- and to the group's roots in Chicago. Performing individually and in groups will be: · Spanky McFarlane, lead singer of Spanky & Our Gang, best known for their chart-topping hits "Sunday Will Never Be the Same," "Lazy Day," and "Like to Get to Know You." McFarlane later joined The Mamas & The Papas following the tragic death of her close friend Mama Cass Elliott. · Award-winning singer-songwriter Ginni Clemmens (of Maui, Hawaii) who shared bills with folk legends Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and John Prine. · Miranda, CA musician and environmental activist Peter Childs (bluegrass guitar, dobro, and mandolin with The Knob Lick Upper 10,000) · Los Angeles musician and artist Guy Guilbert (guitar, bass, and piano with Inman & Ira) · Point Reyes, CA, resident and CLIO Award-winning composer/producer, Ethan Kenning (aka George Edwards of H.P. Lovecraft, composer of "The White Ship") · Alaska resident and cowboy singer/songwriter G.W. Keyl (recent album, "Sunset On The Sage") · Miami singer/songwriter John Brown (Big Three with Mama Cass and The Equal Opportunity swing band) A number of unbilled special guest performers are also expected to appear. The Curleyfest tribute concert will be held at 7:00 PM on October 27th in the Forum Theater at the College of the Redwoods, located on Highway 101 between Ferndale and Eureka, approximately 270 miles north of San Francisco.
