The common thread that weaves between all of us with Curleyfest is the blessing of having known Mama Blue. She loved to feed our bodies, nourish our spirits, delighting in cooking Thanksgiving and holidays dinners for her incredibly diverse "kids". She loved music and her nightclub in Chicago, Mother Blues, was the launching pad for many musicians and comedians that are big celebrities today. Most of all she lived her life with devoted compassion and appreciation for the often time amusing diversity of humankind. She knew everything about you, and loved you anyway. The last attempt at a count Blue's "kids" numbered somewhere around 470. Actor and Comedian, Jeff Doucette, said it best. "Until this gathering, I always felt I was her favorite. Now I know we ALL felt we were her favorite."
